- HeightUp is educational. It is not medicine and not a medical device.
- The predicted height is a statistical estimate with a wide margin of error. It is not a measurement of what will happen.
- No app can make you taller. HeightUp does not promise, and cannot deliver, any increase in height.
- Every calorie figure in HeightUp is a target to reach, never a limit to stay under.
- Talk to a doctor about any concern with growth, puberty, weight or eating.
1. HeightUp is educational, not medical
HeightUp is an educational and informational app. It is not a medical device, it does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition, and nothing in it is medical advice. It has not been evaluated or approved by any medical regulator.
Using HeightUp does not create a doctor-patient, dietitian-client or coach-athlete relationship between you and us.
2. What the prediction actually is
The predicted adult height is a statistical estimate. It is calculated from the information you enter (age, sex, current height, and your biological parents' heights) against published population growth references.
Treat the figure as a range, not a result. The clinical methods this kind of estimate is based on carry a wide margin of error, which is why the app shows the estimate with its error alongside it. Two people with identical inputs can finish at noticeably different heights. A prediction that turns out to be wrong is a normal and expected outcome of a statistical model, not a fault in the app.
The estimate is also less reliable when:
- the heights you entered for yourself or your parents are guessed rather than measured;
- puberty started unusually early or unusually late;
- there is a medical condition, medication or nutritional situation affecting growth, because the model knows nothing about any of these;
- growth is already finished or nearly finished.
3. What HeightUp does not promise
We do not claim that HeightUp, or anything in it, will increase your height. Adult height is determined overwhelmingly by genetics. Sleep, nutrition and physical activity matter because falling short on them can stop someone reaching the height they were already going to reach. They help protect potential; they do not add height beyond it.
Posture and mobility work can change how tall you stand and measure on a given day. It does not change the length of your bones.
Once the growth plates have closed, height does not increase. No exercise, food, supplement, sleep schedule or app changes that.
4. Sleep, nutrition and activity targets
The targets in HeightUp follow general published guidance for adolescents. They are not a personalised plan and they are not a substitute for what a doctor, dietitian or coach who knows you would recommend. Your needs may be different, and if you have a medical condition, an allergy, a dietary restriction or a prescription, they almost certainly are.
Every calorie and nutrient figure in HeightUp is a target to reach, not a ceiling to stay under. HeightUp does not support weight loss, calorie deficits, fasting or any form of dietary restriction, and it will not help you plan one.
Nutrition figures produced by meal scanning are estimates. Portion size judged from a photograph is approximate by nature, and food matched to a reference database will not exactly equal what is on your plate. Do not rely on these numbers for anything medical, and never for managing a condition such as diabetes or a serious allergy.
5. Exercise and injury
HeightUp includes posture, mobility and stretching routines. Physical activity carries a risk of injury. Check with a doctor before starting if you have an injury, a medical condition, or any reason to think exercise may not be safe for you.
You take part at your own risk. Stop immediately if you feel pain, dizziness or discomfort, and get medical attention if you need it. Never push into pain to reach a target in the app.
6. The AI coach
The coach is an AI system. It can be confidently wrong, and it can misread the numbers it is given. It does not give diagnoses, dosages or supplement recommendations, and it is limited to sleep, nutrition, activity and growth.
Do not act on anything it says about your health without checking with an adult you trust or a medical professional. The coach is not a counsellor, a therapist or a crisis service.
7. When to talk to a doctor
Please speak to a doctor, and do not wait, if:
- you or your child seem to be growing much faster or much slower than expected;
- puberty seems to be starting very early or has not started when you expected;
- there is unexplained weight loss or weight gain;
- eating has become a source of anxiety, guilt, secrecy or control;
- you are considering any supplement, hormone or medication intended to affect growth;
- anything about growth or development is worrying you.
Never disregard professional medical advice, or delay seeking it, because of something HeightUp showed you.
If you are struggling
An app that shows you numbers about your body can be a difficult thing to look at. If the way you think about eating, your weight or your body is causing you distress, please talk to a parent, a school counsellor or your doctor.
If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line in your country right now. In the US and Canada you can call or text 988. In the UK and Ireland you can call 116 123 to reach Samaritans. A directory of international helplines is at findahelpline.com.
HeightUp is not a crisis service and cannot help in an emergency.
8. Limitation
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any decision you make, or any outcome that follows, from relying on a prediction, estimate, target or AI answer in HeightUp. Your use of the app is at your own risk. This disclaimer forms part of our Terms of Use, and the limitation of liability there applies to everything on this page.
